Devils Postpile National Monument
Madera County, CA
![]() |
Description: Explore columnar basalt formations known as the Devils Postpile and hike along the San Joaquin River.
Between the Devils Postpile and Rainbow Falls there are two miles of beautiful, mostly flat hiking. If that isn't enough head out on the John Muir and Pacific Crest Trails which pass through the monument.
The easiest way to get into the monument is to catch a shuttle at the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area (yes dogs are allowed on the shuttle).
Leashes Required.
